Sexual abuse insurance, also known as sexual misconduct insurance, is a type of liability insurance that provides coverage for damages or injuries that occur as a result of sexual abuse or harassment committed by the policyholder or their employees. This type of insurance is typically purchased by organizations such as group homes, assisted living facilities and other organizations that work with vulnerable populations and have a heightened risk of sexual misconduct.

Sexual abuse insurance can provide coverage for a wide range of damages, including medical expenses for the victim, lost income, and legal costs associated with defending against a lawsuit. The policy can cover both alleged abuse and also the defense cost. It also may include coverage for reputational damage.

This type of coverage is not a stand-alone policy and typically is an endorsement to the general liability insurance, professional liability insurance, or management liability insurance. It’s important to note that sexual abuse insurance is not a guarantee that an organization will be immune to sexual misconduct, but it can offer some financial protection in the event that an incident occurs.
